MAG welding is arc welding with a fusible electrode shielded with gases or their mixtures. It consists in fusing the welded metal and the consumable electrode material (wire) with the heat of the welding arc glowing in the gas shield between the consumable electrode and the material being welded. Its versatility lies in welding at very high speed and in all positions. It is widely used for thin, medium and thick welding steel components, especially when high manual welding performance is required. Introduced cored wires are increasingly used for welding large steel structures. The difference between one and the other method (MIG and MAG) is primarily the use of another shielding gas that protects the liquid metal pool from the effects of oxygen from atmospheric air.
